5 Must-Try Free Patterns to Sew and Refresh Your Summer Wardrobe
When I started sewing my own clothes almost a decade ago, I would’ve sworn that I would wear my handmade pieces all the time. But the truth is, they weren't always practical. Don't get me wrong- I love a good dress that's a little inconvenient- but with so many new changes in my life, I’ve had to be more purposeful in what I sew (at least for myself).
After having a baby-and still feeding on demand (15 months later)-while trying to downsize, I need pieces I know I’ll actually use in my everyday life (especially on a budget).
So, I've gathered a few FREE patterns that I'm excited to sew and I believe are worth your time!
Pattern 1: Joyce by Tiana's Closet
I’ve had a hard time finding a shirt I want to sew, until I found this one. I love the simplicity and the subtle tie detail. With the right fabric, I know it’ll be comfy and breathable, making it perfectly practical for everyday wear. Plus, no zippers or buttons to fuss with!
Pattern 2: Isla Puffed Sleeve Top by Tiana's Closet
This shirt is perfect for summer- breezy, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish. It gives laid-back beach day vibes while still being able to dress up.
Pattern 3: L:601 Pyjamas by The Assembly Line
These pajamas look simple and practical where if I have to rush out the door, I wouldn’t mind being seen in them. I can see myself reaching for these again and again.
Pattern 4: Pull-on Pants by Unfettered Patterns
One of my goals this year is to finally sew a pair of real pants for myself. I’ve made pajama pants and rompers, but I want to challenge myself with something i can actually wear out and be comfy in. This pattern feels like the perfect next step! I love that the back has an elastic wait, yet it has a cute bow detail in the front!
Pattern 5: Miniskirt with Slit by Unfettered Patterns
I have been planning to make a skirt like this for at least three years- and I finally found the perfect pattern! While a little less practical for daily life, it's perfect for those date nights or those rare, slightly nicer family outings.
Using free patterns is one of the ways I've tried to make sewing a more budget-friendly hobby. There are so many out there and I find that many of them are surprisingly high quality. I'm really excited to sew these pieces! I have some many projects, so I'm not sure when I'll get to them, but I'll be sharing updates as I finish them, so stay tuned to see how they turn out.
I hope this list helps you as you think about refreshing your wardrobe with more pieces that are practical, wearable, and budget-friendly!
Don't forget to pin and share!
